Settling In

Teething can be fun

Toddler in flight

Spakoynay Nochi! (Good Night!)

We are gettling settled into our daily routine with Emma. Each time we visit she gets busier and busier. We are getting quite a workout doing baby-ups and giving airplane rides. Emma likes her toys, and her toy bag (in fact, you'll see a picture of her sitting and playing inside the toy bag). It is heartening to see more and more of her personality as we get to know her, and to see her getting more comfortable with us.

Once our visit was finished, we confirmed with our driver that the building with the blue domes we saw the other day is indeed a museum, and we ventured in. Unfortunately we were met by a guard who chastised us in Russian. When he figured out we were Americanskis, he rolled his eyes, took us outside and pointed to the sign that showed seven little circles. The second circle was red (see photo). After giving our brains a few moments to process this, we got it - closed on the second day of the week - Tuesday! After saying "Oh Da!" to the guard we trekked onward. Today's pictures include one of the kind of heeled boots the women wear while walking on the ice through town. There is also one of the higher-end shopping area where we saw a Tiffany's store (we did not venture in there).

Tonite we had dinner with our American friends from NY. We had pork at a nice restaurant that had some parts of the menu in both Russian and English. Afterward, our driver informed us that "pork is not real Kazakh food," and told us the name of a dish we must try, but neither Jim nor I can remember what it's called.

Thanks again to all of you for your love, prayers and support.

It looks like you've brought out the "live wire" in Emma. She is going to keep you very busy. May had better enjoy this last weeks of no toddlers in the house. :-)

Hugs,
Lynne

More great pictures. How sweet to see such big smiles and laughs from her. Are your visits 2 hours everyday or just during the week. Do you get to take her outside?-- though it looks pretty cold there. Are you allowed to videotape any of the visits? Just curious. Can you leave a picture of the two of you there with Emma when you leave?Glad everything is going so well--such a happy and blessed time. Love ya!

What an adventure you are having. To bond with your new daughter and experience the unique culture. She is BEAUTIFUL and you all seem so happy. We are so happy for you and hope the remainder of the trip and the process continues to go well.

The pictures today really made me laugh! What great fun to see that stoic little being become the bouncing little bundle of joy she is now - and in such a short period of time. You belong together. I do think she'll keep her brothers on the move also.

Hugs to the Three of You,
Love, Mom

I am an official blog addict! Can't wait each day to see the pictures and read about your journey. So glad you have connected with some fellow Americans while you are there. I am sure the support is very helpful. I know you have a lot of support here!
Hugs from Kentucky!

I too have become a blog addict! I really enjoy your daily updates, so keep them coming! Nice to see you're getting out a bit to take in the local culture. Hopefully you'll get into the museum another day if you feel inclined. What are the big bear statues/decorations? Emma really seems to be having fun. Keep up the good work! Love,
